Understanding Emotion: Inside and Out

  • 46903 Sugarland Rd Sterling, VA 20164 USA (map)

Why did Allah give us emotions?  What roles should emotions play in our lives?  How can we acknowledge our emotions and the emotions of others in a healthy way?

Find out the answer to these questions and more in the next session of “Islam in Popular Media”. This month will cover the popular Pixar Animated Film Inside Out.  Led by Imam Abdul-Malik Merchant, the lecture and subsequent question-based group discussion will draw on Inside Out to discuss the role of emotions through an Islamic lens, using Riley's emotional journey to illuminate the harms of emotional imbalance and highlight the necessity of emotional awareness.

Viewing Inside Out before the event is not mandatory but it is recommended as the plot of Inside Out will be used as a starting point for discussions and will contain spoilers.

Please note that this event is not a screening for Inside Out, rather a discussion on the film's themes from an Islamic Perspective.  Open to attendees 14+.
